Former Deputy Sheriff of the Gambia was arrested and detained in 2009 in Mile 2 prison. He was accused of conspiracy and economic crimes after revealing corruption by a fellow employee, who was close to the Jammeh regime. After a prolonged two-year trial in the High Court, he was found not guilty, but still, he was not reinstated. He was officially blackballed from meaningful employment - financially ruining him and his family.
